The biggest auction has taken place once again, with Australia featuring at the top of list. The IPL will be entering its 10th season in mid April, and with a massive broadcast deal, there was plenty of cash to spread around for the auction this year.
The auction is a great way of recruiting the best talent, for the best price, and allows each franchise to control their own fate.
Australia featured prominently, with not only born-and-raised Australian's cashing in, but the Big Bash League being rewarded as one of the best of its kind around the globe.
56 foreign players went to auction, with 27 of them being apart of the 2017-18 installment of the BBL07. Along with that, 17 Australians were purchased, boosting the skillset of power and dominance in the shorter form of the game, in a competition that allows for just four foreign players in the team.
With all the BBL players combining, the money spent on the BBL alone topped AUD$22 million.
Chris Lynn narrowly edged out Mitchell Starc for the top priced Aussie, with the pair earning AUD$1.8 million each. Maxwell wasn't too far behind them either, after a blistering campaign a season ago, going for AUD$1.75 million. Both Lynn and Starc were claimed by Kolkata Knight Riders, while Maxwell will play for Delhi Daredevils.
Young stars also cashed in for rewards of their seasons thus far in Australia, with D'Arcy Short and Ben Dwarshius being rewarded with an IPL contract, as well as inclusion in the Australian squad to face England early in February.
Bad Boy Englishmen, Ben Stokes, was taken highest in this year's auction, secured a AUD$2.8 million contract with Rajasthan, after a turmoil-filled summer causing him to miss England's tour of Australia.
However, as with any auction, some cashed in, and many were left unturned, as the likes of Chris Gayle, Joe Root, James Faulkner and Eoin Morgan to name a few missed out on this years campaign.
However, to put into perspective the money that some are earning, Starc, providing he bowls his four overs each game, will earn $5000 for each delivery.
Andrew Tye has had an incredible season this summer, with his efforts in his ODI debut series being noted, earning AUD$1.4 million with Kings XI Punjab.
