Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan will become Afghanistan's new captain in the T20 format following former captain Mohammad Nabi's decision to stand down from the role.
Nabi stepped down as captain after a winless Afghanistan was eliminated from the T20 World Cup.
This will be Rashid Khan's second stint as the skipper after he previously led the side but resigned after Afghanistan's World Cup squad was announced. He confirmed that the selection committee had not asked for his consent before announcing the side.
“I have the experience of leading my country before, there is a great bunch of guys with whom I have a good understanding and feel pretty comfortable,” he said.
“We will try to stick together, will work hard to put things on the right track and bring pride and joy to our country and nation.”
Khan was once the captain in all three formats, becoming the youngest ODI captain at 19 years and 165 days, also being the youngest Test captain at 20 years and 350 days.
Australian fans will know him from his incredible variation with the ball playing for the Adelaide Strikers.
His figures make him one of the world's best, taking 97 wickets in 66 games at a 16.66 average. His economy is just 6.35 with 6/17 as his best BBL figures.
The first job he will have back as captain will be in a three-match series against the United Arab Emirates in February.
