The Melbourne Renegades have signed West Indian spinner Sunil Narine as the club's second overseas player for the upcoming BBL06 season.

Narine is a veteran of domestic T20 cricket, having played nearly 200 matches of the shortest form of the game.

The 28-year-old has won the Indian Premier League twice will Kolkata Knightriders, and has represented the West Indies 39 times at T20 level.

Ranked inside the ICC's top ten T20 bowlers, Narine is looking forward to joining the Renegades for the upcoming season.

“This is a great opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to moving down to Melbourne for the BBL season,” Narine said.

“The BBL is growing bigger and bigger every year and attracts attention from around the world. The Renegades fans have a reputation for being loyal and loud and I’m ready to see what I can do at Etihad Stadium,” he said.

“With my fellow countryman Dwayne Bravo, captain Aaron Finch and the rest of the guys, I’m hoping for a successful tournament,” Narine added.

Melbourne coach Andrew McDonald was pleased to complete the signing of Narine, and said the spinner would bring a wealth of experience to his side.

“I’m really pleased we’ve been able to get Sunil on board with us this season. He has a lot of experience and has won the world’s toughest T20 tournament twice – those insights will be a huge benefit to the team in this campaign,” McDonald said.

“He’s a proven wicket-taker and someone we know has the ability to stall momentum in our opposition. I’m looking forward to seeing him in action."
