Jhye Richardson

The Perth Scorchers will be without star bowler Jhye Richardson for the final weeks of the regular BBL|12 season, hoping to have the in-form paceman back in time for another finals campaign.

Richardson suffered the ailment earlier this week in his side's six-wicket loss to the Sydney Thunder, unable to finish his bowling spell and requiring medical attention.

Scorchers coach Adam Voges confirmed to media on Friday that Richardson has suffered a minor hamstring strain and that the club will take a "cautious" approach given the 26-year-old's history of hamstring issues.

"It's on the very minor end of a hamstring strain," Voges said.

"Unfortunately, it's the same hamstring that he did injure six to 12 months ago so we may need to take the cautious route.

"I think you need to (be cautious) with someone of Jhye's calibre, but we've got a world-class medical staff here and I'll trust them to put the work in with Jhye.

"Hopefully we'll get him back on the park as soon as possible."

The Scorchers have regained gun quick bowler Lance Morris in time for Saturday's clash with the Brisbane Heat at Optus Stadium after the WA native spent the last few weeks with the Australian Test squad.

Unutilised for the SCG Test, Morris was released from the squad to join the Scorchers and remains a chance to feature against Brisbane despite the small turnaround.

The Scorchers have also listed Chris Sabburg as a local replacement player as Adam Lyth prepares for his final match with Perth, while Faf du Plessis concluded his stint with the Scorchers on Wednesday.

The four-time BBL champions have also welcomed English bowler David Payne to their squad for the second half of the BBL|12 tournament.

The Scorchers currently sit second on the BBL table after seven matches, two in hand over ladder leaders the Sydney Sixers, who are just one point ahead of the Perth side.

The Scorchers have six matches remaining before the finals, including a clash with the Sixers at the SCG on Sunday, January 15.
