Former Australian Test Captain Steve Smith is ready for a call-up for the side's must-win final T20 group game against Afghanistan this Friday at the Adelaide Oval.

Australia, who secured an important win over Ireland on Monday to keep themselves in contention for a semi-final spot, will be nervously awaiting injury results on skipper Aaron Finch and power-hitting pair Marcus Stoinis and Tim David.

The trio all underwent scans yesterday in Brisbane after spending time on the sidelines with hamstring soreness during the Ireland game.

According to cricket.com.au, Finch's hamstring setback appears to be the worst of the three, with the severity of Stoinis and David's hamstrings not known.

Smith, who came on as a substitute fielder on Monday night, says he is unaware of the hamstring issues surrounding the trio, but is hopeful there is no major damage.

"I haven't heard anything at this stage," Smith said.

"Fingers crossed the guys who are having their scans can get some good news and be okay."

Having fielded the majority of Ireland's run-chase, Smith too said he felt some hamstring tightness but quickly declared himself good to go against Afghanistan if needed.

"Like any sort of tournament, I'm always happy to play," Smith said.

"I haven't had an opportunity so far, but I feel like I'm batting quite well in the nets so if that opportunity does arise, I'll look to take it with both hands.

"There's obviously a few different ways the team could play, and I'm sure they'll talk about in the strategy (meetings) and talk about match-ups and things like that.

"I'm open to batting anywhere.

"I've batted pretty much every position - I don't think I've opened in T20 internationals, but I did it a couple of times in the IPL and did it pretty well.

"And I've batted down to six or seven, where I've done okay at the back-end on occassions as well.

"So I'm pretty open to whatever happens, we'll just see.

"Let's keep our fingers crossed for the guys getting scans."

Australia will be banking on other results in their group going their way after England secured an important 20-run win over New Zealand on Tuesday night in Brisbane.

This includes needing Ireland to defeat New Zealand in Adelaide on Friday, and Sri Lanka to beat England in Sydney on Saturday.
