Sri Lankan paceman Lasith Malinga is set for a return to international cricket after he was named in the T20 squad to tour Australia.

Malinga hasn't played international cricket for over a year due to injury, in his last match he took 4-26 against the UAE in an Asia Cup T20 match.

The 33-year-old was today named in the 15-man squad for the three-match T20 series, Upal Tharanga will captain the team in Angelo Mathews absence.

Malinga injured his left knee during the West Indies' tour of Sri Lanka in 2015. The extensive bone bruising has caused him to miss both the World T20 tournament and the IPL.

He was due to return for the T20 international series against South Africa, with is currently ongoing, but he was brought down with a bout of dengue fever.

Malinga has the record for the best bowling figures in the Big Bash, when he took 6-7 against the Perth Scorchers in BBL02 for the Melbourne Stars.

The T20 series against Australia will include matches at the MCG (Feb 17), Kardinia Park in Geelong (Feb 19) and Adelaide (Feb 22).
