Melbourne Stars coach David Hussey has expressed his frustrations in the Big Bash's decision to postpone recent matches after his side were required to play two games with a compromised list.

The Stars have been the side most heavily impacted by the recent spike of COVID-19 cases across the country, with more than a dozen players having to sit out of their recent matches against the Perth Scorchers and Renegades.

Both ganmes ended in defeat for the undermanned Melbourne franchise, who are now facing an uphill battle to reach finals.

Cricket Australia are looking to bring all eight BBL sides to Victoria under a competition-wide bubble in hope of prolonging the season's chances of finding a conclusion.

Several matches have been postponed in recent days, with the Brisbane Heat having a significant amount of players test positive and subsequently having their clash against the Sixers on Wednesday postponed.

The Stars weren't handed the same treatment despite having most of their best XI ruled out for a week whilst they underwent health and safety protocols.

Hussey's side were required to recruit fill-in players from lower leagues, creating a stark difference in talent between the Stars and their opponents.

Speaking on Cricket Australia's decision to postpone other matches while the Stars fielded an uknown side of their own, Hussey stated his side were "harshly done by".

“I was exceptionally annoyed,” Hussey told Sportsday.

“Our brief was the game was postponed against the Scorchers at Marvel Stadium, (we) had 48 hours to get 11 fit and firing players at the Junction Oval and the Derby match at the MCG.

“Doing all this while in our beds, isolating from friends and family over the Christmas period, it wasn’t easy.

“The boys who played equipped themselves really well, but it just wasn’t the Stars’ brand, it wasn’t the way we wanted to play our cricket… it was extremely frustrating to watch from the couch seeing the boys try their socks off to get the result.

“But we just couldn’t put out our best team, I do think we were harshly done by and harshly dealt with, but let’s see what happens later on in the competition.

“The precedent has been set now, so hopefully we get all our healthy boys back and if other teams happen to go down, well the rules have been set.”

The Stars are currently placed at the foot of the BBL ladder after eight matches, having recorded just the 10 points for the season.

Their cross-town rivals the Renegades were lifted toward the top end and into fifth following their win over the Stars earlier this week, where they collected all four points to now hold a gap of five points over the Stars.

The Stars had their match against Adelaide on Friday night postponed due to the ongoing impacts the virus has had on their group.
