The Melbourne Stars are set for a major boost for the upcoming BBL season with Ben Dunk almost a certainty to join the franchise.

Dunk registered 364 runs with a strike rate of 164 in what looks likely to be his lone season with the Adelaide Strikers, with Dunk's signature a big boost for the Stars who have lost veteran David Hussey to retirement.

Dunk will officially put pen to paper on the deal as soon as Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers' Association agree on a pay deal as he joins mainstays Luke Wright, Rob Quiney and Kevin Pietersen in the Melbourne green this summer.

Dunk sits ninth all time on the BBL's run scoring list, averaging an impressive 29.1 at the top of the order.

In addition to the aforementioned quartet, Peter Handscomb and Glenn Maxwell round out a star-studded batting line up for the Stars still in search of tournament success.

When the ink dries, the Stars will have filled 17 of their 18 roster spots for the season.
