Pakistan v England - ICC Men's T20 World Cup: Final

England have become the first team to hold the ODI and T20I World Cup trophies at the same time with a thrilling victory over Pakistan in the shortest form final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday evening.

It was a game that ebbed and flowed throughout, but ultimately, Ben Stokes, who has been the difference for England across all three formats of the game in recent times was the reason England were able to get over the line.

After taking 1 for 32 with the ball from his four overs, Stokes would guide the innings home after England had looked in shaky circumstances on two occasions in their chase of 138.

Early wickets - including that of Alex Hales and Jos Buitler, left England at 3 for 45 in the sixth over, before Stokes found a willing compatriot in Harry Brook.

The duo took the score along to 84, however, England would score just 12 runs in the four overs after drinks to take the required run rate from around six runs per over to almost ten as the closing stages of the match approached.

It was the wicket of Brook which seemed to impact Pakistan the most though, with a diving catch in the outfield injuring Shaheen Shah Afridi.

He left the field and attempted to bowl on his return, but lasted just one ball, replaced in the attack by Iftikhar Ahmed.

Ahmed would have Stokes dropped at long off almost immediately, with the English all-rounder then hitting a four and a six in the same over to bring the equation back to a manageable level for England.

Stokes and Moeen Ali would take England to within striking distance of the finish line, with Pakistan's bowling and fielding noticeably dropping off in the final moments of the game, however, Moeen Ali being dismissed for 19 off 13 with 10 balls to spare and still 7 runs to win kept a glimmer of hope for Pakistan.

Stokes and Liam Livingstone would ultimately take England to the finish line.

The English run chase followed a Pakistan innings which struggled to get going on a difficult pitch. Cameos from Shan Masood (38 off 28), Babar Azam (32 off 28) and Shadab Khan (20 off 14) kept them in reach of a competitive score, and while it looked at times like it would be enough, that ultimately wouldn't prove to be the case.
