Several Test aspirants have failed in their bids to impress national selectors on day one of the Sheffield Shield season.

Western Australian pair Cameron Bancroft and Shaun Marsh were dismissed for 10 and 15 respectively in the Warriors' clash against Tasmania.

The Warriors reached 6-259 at stumps.

Joe Burns (25) and Usman Khawaja (21) both got starts but also failed to make the most of their opportunities as Queensland reached 4-298 at stumps on day one against Victoria.

In the third match of the day. New South Wales' Ed Cowan also made a start, scoring 31 before being dismised by Joe Mennie.
