Heading into the latest Big Bash League season, there are certainly no shortage of storylines that could come together by campaign's end.

Will the Sydney Sixers secure a historic three-peat?

Can the Perth Scorchers claim a competition-best fourth BBL title?

Is this the year that the Melbourne Stars finally get over their hump?

Or can a team like the Melbourne Renegades or the Hobart Hurricanes create a fairytale story?

With the season set to commence this Sunday, we here at Zero Wicket have gone through each squad and identified the potential breakout star, the strongest international import and the key players ahead of ball one of BBL11.

Adelaide Strikers

Breakout player: Harry Conway

Standing at 200cm tall, Harry Conway is an imposing pace bowler out of New South Wales. Having only played the eight T20 matches so far in his career, Conway could be about to break onto the scene as an important member of the Strikers squad.

The 29 year-old has a First class bowling average of 27.9

International star: Rashid Khan (Afghanistan)

The superstar wrist-spinner is back for another season in blue at the Adelaide Oval. One of the most prolific T20 bowlers in the world, Khan has dominated in the BBL in recent years.

Through 50 matches in the competition, Khan has taken 72 wickets at an average of 17.46 and an impressive strike rate of 16.19.

Key Player: Jake Weatherald

With Alex Carey and Travis Head both a part of the Ashes squad this summer it is likely both will miss a fair portion of the BBL season. Meaning more pressure will fall onto the experienced Jake Weatherald who will open the batting for the Strikers.

With an average of 28.27 through his 63 matches, the left-hander will be vital for the South Australian franchise.

Brisbane Heat

Breakout player: Xavier Bartlett

At just 22 years of age, Xavier Bartlett already has 16 BBL games under his belt. The young quick has taken 12 wickets at an average of 27.33.

Often opening the bowling, Bartlett has shown an ability to swing the white ball early, making him a dangerous powerplay bowler and one to watch in BBL 11.

International star: Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Afghanistan)

Much like Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman has lit up the BBL in recent seasons. The star off-spinner from Afghanistan has been a nightmare for batters to pick and was the Heat's leading wicket-taker last season with 14 wickets at an outstanding average of 13.42.

Still only 20 years of age Mujeeb Ur Rahman is already one of the best short-form bowlers in the world.

Key Player: Chris Lynn

Arguably the face of the BBL, the destructive Chris Lynn has blasted the most sixes with 172 in the history of the competition.

Much of the Heats' batting revolves around the Queenslander, and when he is firing, then the pressure is released from the rest of the lineup.

If Lynn can find his touch early in the season the Heat may be turned up on the opposition bowlers.

Hobart Hurricanes

Breakout player: Riley Meredith

After what was an already impressive BBL 10 campaign from Meredith, the tearaway quick will be hoping to put his name forward for international selection by the conclusion of BBL 11.

Meredith tallied 16 wickets at a strike rate of 18.88 and possesses some of the best pace in the country.

International star: Sandeep Lamichhane (Nepal)

After crossing over from the Melbourne Stars in BBL 10, the young Nepalese spinner took eight wickets in what turned out to be a shortened stint with the Hobart Hurricanes.

Possessing one of the best trick bags in the world, Lamichhane's doosra may be his best delivery, regularly undoing batsman and looking unplayable during his condensed spells.

Key player: Matthew Wade

The Hurricanes captain Matthew Wade is fresh off a winning T20 World Cup campaign during which he played a big role in delivering the title.

The pocket dynamo virtually saved the Australians in the semi-final against Pakistan where he sent Australia into the final off the back of three consecutive sixes off Shaheen Shah Afridi in the nineteenth over.

Wade is a consistent performer in the domestic competition and will open the batting for the Hurricanes.

Melbourne Renegades

Breakout player: Jake Fraser-McGurk

The young Victorian got a taste for the BBL last season where he played in 10 matches and scored 127 runs.

Touted as one of the most promising batting talents currently coming through the ranks in Victoria, Fraser-Mcgurk should see BBL 11 as a platform to show out and put his name in the lights.

An aggressive style could see him bat inside the top-four on most occasions.

International star: Reece Topley (England)

Reece Topley comes to the Renegades after his fair share of injuries and an interrupted couple of seasons. However, the tall English seamer possesses a point of difference being a left-armer with a deadly yorker in his arsenal.

If Topely finds his best form, he will form a formidable pace duo with the aggressive James Pattinson, something the Renegades have lacked in his recent seasons.

Key Player: Aaron Finch

Anytime you have the T20 World Cup-winning captain in your side, he's going to be your key player.

However, Finch has decided to pass on the captaincy of the Renegades to Nic Maddinson allowing him to focus on his production at the crease.

The lessened responsibility on Finch's shoulders may free him up at the crease and allow him to recapture the sparkling form of years gone by.

Melbourne Stars

Breakout player: Tom O'Connell

Young leg spinner Tom O'Connell will be looking to find an opportunity in the Stars eleven this season. With just the five BBL caps to date, O'Connell has performed well in the Stars' practice match taking three wickets.

With Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell likely to be called up for Australian duties during the back half of the BBL, O'Connell may be called upon to produce as a front-line spinner.

International star: Joe Clarke (England)

One of the most explosive and exciting batters in England is bringing his talents to the Melbourne Stars. Joe Clarke boasts an impressive T20 resume, averaging 28.01 at an impressive strike rate of 155.62.

Clarke has also reached triple figures three times in the short format, and will likely open the batting with the powerful Marcus Stoinis.

Key Player: Marcus Stoinis

Another of the stars from the winning T20 World, Marcus Stoinis was instrumental in finishing multiple innings throughout the tournament, including leading hands in Australia's victories against South Africa and Pakistan.

Stoinis' role for the Stars is set differ, as he will open the batting for the green team and be the key pillar alongside Joe Clarke and Glenn Maxwell.

Along with his batting prowess, Stoinis also provides flexibility with the ball in hand as he is a more than capable medium pace bowler in the short format.

Perth Scorchers

Breakout player: Matthew Kelly

At 26 years of age, Matthew Kelly is a 193cm fast bowler for Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers.

Kelly has 27 wickets in his 21 BBL matches so far in his career at an average of 22.52. Kelly has been a consistent performer in both the Sheffield Shield and JLT Cup for his state and BBL 11 could be his chance to show his newly found T20 skillset.

International star: Colin Munro (New Zealand)

The experienced Colin Munro brings a wealth of experience and ability to the Scorchers squad, with the New Zealand international having played in 65 T20 Internationals for the Black Caps.

Munro averages 31.34 in T20 internationals with a strike rate of 156.44. Adding to his value, Munro contributes with the ball having an average of 32.48 with 31 wickets in T20 cricket.

Key player: Mitchell Marsh

The hero for Australia in the World Cup Final, Mitch Marsh is coming off his crowning moment in international cricket.

The Perth Scorchers will be hoping their captain can replicate that type of form this upcoming season, as the hard-hitting Marsh will lead the Scorchers' charge for title number four.

Marsh will likely bat at three given his World Cup heroics and will also contribute with the ball when he feels necessary.

Sydney Sixers

Breakout player: Lloyd Pope

Young leg-spinner Lloyd Pope has long been on the radar of many cricket fans since he caught their eye for Australia in the under-19 World Cup. Through 20 career BBL matches, Pope has taken just the 16 wickets with a strike rate of 24.

With another year of development, Pope should be looking to break onto the scene and has a terrific opportunity as a leg-spinner on a notoriously spin-friendly pitch at the SCG.

International star: James Vince (England)

James Vince is back for another season with the Sydney Sixers where he will likely open the batting again. Vince has been one of the better performing international signings over the past few additions of the BBL.

The England international owns a BBL average of 31.95 and has raised the bat on 7 occasions for the Sixers.

A vital member of last year's squad who won their second title in as many years, Vince will be a key cog in their pursuit of three in a row.

Key Player: Josh Phillipe

Last year's breakout player across the entire competition was young Josh Phillipe. After a tremendous campaign opening the batting alongside James Vince, Phillipe found himself being rewarded with T20 international and One Day International debuts.

His consistent performances at the top of the order were made even more impressive with the ease at which he made batting look. Phillipe has become one of the best players in the competition and averages 32.65 from his 48 BBL innings.

Sydney Thunder

Breakout player: Oliver Davies

Talented young batsman Oliver Davies looks to be an exciting prospect for Australian cricket moving forward.

The right-hander has appeared in eight BBL games with just 90 runs at an average of 15, but it's his 152.54 strike rate that has resonated with the fans.

At just 21 years old, Davies will likely open the batting for the Thunder, potentially alongside the big-hitting Alex hales

International star: Alex Hales (England)

English international Alex Hales is no stranger to the BBL.

BBL11 will mark his sixth season competing in the Australian domestic league, and he's coming off a terrific BBL10 campaign.

Last season, Hales compiled 543 runs at an average of 38.79 and an impressive 161.61 strike rate. The Englisman also bludgeoned a high score of 110.

Key Player: Tanveer Sangha

In his first season, teenager Tanveer Sangha was one of the best performing bowlers in BBL10. Now 20 years of age, Sangha will be a vital part of the Thunder's bowling lineup.

Last Season, Sangha took 21 wickets at an average of 18.29. Another good season from the talented young spinner could see him rewarded with international selection and further T20 opportunities.
