Leg-spinner Adam Zampa recently expressed his continued desire for a test call-up ahead of the Border-Gavaskar test series against India next year.

He took an enormous step towards being in the picture for that tour yesterday by taking to the field with the New South Wales Blues in the Sheffield Shield.

It has been his first appearance in the Sheffield Shield in over three years, his last appearance coming in 2019. NSW called on his expertise after their dismal start to the season which sees them in dead last, and with a change of coach.

Zampa picked up all three of Victoria's top run scorers in the first innings. He firstly dismissed Will Sutherland on 39 (80) with a cracking ball which pitched outside leg stump which turned and caught Sutherlands edge.

A fast delivery was pitched up to dismiss Sam Harper, also on 39 (80) who was trapped LBW. He lastly dismissed Sam Elliott who mistimed his shot through to midwicket and was caught by Sean Abbott.

Abbott the other NSW bowling standout taking 4/56, with Zampa impressing with 3/57 from his 18 overs.

Zampa will no doubt seek to continue his impressive display to add to his CV in the second Victoria innings after being a staple in white-ball Australian teams. His Sheffield Shield performances will strengthen his case for red-ball selection against India, where multiple spinners are a common selection.

NSW ended the day at 2/61 and trail Victoria's 209 by 148 runs.
