BBL - Sixers v Thunder

Sydney Thunder and Pakistan quick Mohammad Hasnain has been banned from bowling after his action was deemed illegal.

His action was first reported while he was at the Thunder in the BBL and testing has since revealed Hasnain breached the ICC's 15-degree limit for elbow extension on his "good length delivery, full-length delivery, slow bouncer and bouncer".

It means that Hasnain will miss Pakistan's series at home against Australia in March as well as being forced to sit out Pakistan Super League games to immediately rectify the issue.

While there's no exact timeline on the length of the ban currently, if Husnain is deemed to use an illegal action for the second time in as many years, he will receive an immediate one-year ban.

During a Sydney Derby in BBL11, Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques was heard sledging Hasnain's action.

Henriques repeatedly said "nice throw mate" to the Pakistan speedster throughout his spell.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has said they will now employ a coach to help remedy Hasnain's action.

"The PCB has discussed the report with its own bowling experts and is confident that the problem can be resolved. The PCB will now appoint a bowling consultant who will work with Mohammad Hasnain so that he can rectify his bowling action and be ready for a reassessment," a PCB statement read.

"Hasnain is an asset for Pakistan and one of the very few bowlers to consistently click 145kph. As such, and keeping his future and Pakistan's interest at the forefront, the PCB, on the recommendation of the HBL PSL 2022 Technical Committee, has decided he will not be allowed to continue to participate in the HBL Pakistan Super League.

"Instead, he will use this time to work with the PCB-appointed bowling consultant to modify his bowling action so that he can apply for a reassessment and become eligible to return to international cricket as quickly as practically possible."

Cricket NSW's head of male cricket Michael Klinger said Hasnain would be welcomed back into the fold at the Thunder when his action was deemed legal.

"Hasnain was a very popular member of the Sydney Thunder and made a positive impression both on and off the field," Klinger said.

"The Thunder fully support his endeavours to clear his action and hope to see him back at the club in the future."
