Hobart has secured the rights to host the fifth Ashes Test of the summer, with the final clash of the series set to see Blundstone Arena showcase the match under lights.
Cricket Australia confirmed on Saturday that Tasmania will host a day-night Test to conclude the Ashes, with the pink-ball fixture to begin on January 14 in place of original hosts Perth.
"We considered a range of factors, including commercial, logistical and operational considerations," Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said on the decision.
"On the balance of these the CA board agreed on Blundstone Arena being the most appropriate venue to host the fifth Vodafone Men's Ashes Test match.
"We also acknowledge the postponement of the Australia and Afghanistan Test due to be played in Hobart earlier in the year played a part in the decision."
The decision will see the Apple Isle host its first international Test match since 2016 when South Africa were on tour down under.
A Test scheduled between Australia and Afghanistan for November was cancelled, leaving locals of the island state without a glance of the touring English Test squad.
After being in consideration alongside Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide, Hobart has claimed a memorable victory over weighty bids from larger venues.
COVID-19-safe capacities are likely to see Blundstone Arena limited to 14,000 fans across each day of the Test.
The decision to play a day-night Test in place of the scrapped Perth match is set to aid the time zone alignment for Western Australia viewers.
