Victorian captain Matthew Wade will undergo surgery on Tuesday after breaking his collarbone on Saturday morning.

Wade injured his shoulder on the morning of his side's Shield clash with Western Australia, while batting in the nets prior to play. The 27-year-old was struck on the shoulder and immediately taken to hospital.

Scans revealed a fractured right clavicle, forcing Wade out of the side and handing a last minute debut to young keeper Aaron Ayre.

Wade has been ruled out of Victoria's two remaining Shield matches this year and the opening two games of the Melbourne Renegades' Big Bash season.
