Leg spinner Fawad Ahmed has signed a new two-year deal with the Sydney Thunder ahead of BBL07.

Ahmed has spent the past two seasons at the Thunder, claiming 15 wickets, with best figures of 4-14 against cross-town rivals, the Sydney Sixes last January.

Ahmed said he has thoroughly enjoyed his time in the harbour city and is thrilled to recommit to the club.

“I’ve had an amazing experience, I’m extremely happy to be part of the club,” he said.

“I have made some really good friends and enjoyed the past two seasons in Sydney, which is a great city. Hopefully we can win the championship again and I can keep making contributions for the team.

“I love spending the summer in Sydney, it’s such a multi-cultural city. It’s very easy for me to go out for food or to the mosque. It’s my favourite time of the year.

“There’s a large population in the Western Sydney suburbs from the sub-continent and I think it’s important to use cricket for good.

“I want to get involved in the community and maybe help produce some players for Sydney Thunder and Australia but more importantly to bring different communities together.”

The Thunder's first match is against the Sixers at Spotless Stadium on December 19.
