Australia's Adam Voges has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, leaving the game with a Test average only surpassed by Don Bradman.

The right-handed batsman scored 1,485 runs at an average of 61.87 in his 20 tests, he was the oldest player to score a test century on debut, against the West Indies at age 35.

The 37-year-old lost his place in the Australian side after their second defeat to South Africa in the summer series.

Voges will captain the Prime Minister's XI against a touring Sri Lankan team on Wednesday.

"This will be it for me," Voges said.

"I'm certainly looking forward to getting out there and playing this game. I've had an amazing couple of years with Australia with the Test team and I've loved every minute of it."
