Hobart Hurricanes wicketkeeper Matthew Wade is of the belief that teammate Tim David could be in the mix for Australia's T20 squad in the near future.

David has gained plenty of attention in recent months, having proven to be a formidable middle-order option in the Big Bash and Pakistan Super League with Hobart and the Multan Sultans respectively.

The Singapore international's impressive run of form saw him claim riches during the weekend's IPL auction with a $1.53 million deal with the Mumbai Indians.

David has shown a tremendous ability to hit the ball at a rapid pace, having amassed a strike rate of 163 across his 14 matches in BBL|11.

His powerful displays of clean-hitting have warranted some to believe the 25-year-old could be nearing selection for international duties with Australia.

For Wade, David would bring an unparalleled ability to Australia's already star-studded white-ball lineup.

"We don't have many guys in Australia that can do what he can do at the back-end of an innings," Wade told cricket.com.au.

"He's just got power … like the West Indies players, that kind of power; the Pollards, the (Andre) Russells, those guys that can come out and mis-hit balls for sixes.

"I haven't seen that in Australian cricket for a long, long time.

"(Marcus) Stoinis is one of the other ones that we've got in Australia and I think Tim's right next to him.

"It's invaluable to go away and play those leagues. He's played a lot now.

"If he puts a good IPL together and gets some runs in some cricket back here, I’m sure he'll be on the radar for the World Cup.

"I'm sure the (Australia) selectors will be speaking to him and keeping in touch.

"I'd love to see him get an opportunity and I'm sure he will down the track."

Having grown up in Perth, David will be eligible to play for Australia, despite following in the footsteps of his father and representing Singapore.

David is also set to feature with T20 Blast club Lancashire for the 2022 season and currently remains without a state contract.

Headlining all Aussies to be selected in the IPL auction, David outpriced incumbent stars Josh Hazlewood (A$1.44m), Pat Cummins (A$1.35m), Mitchell Marsh (A$1.2m) and David Warner (A$1.16m).
