23 Apr 2001: Courtney Walsh waves goodbye to the crowd after his final Test Match in the fifth test between West Indies v South Africa at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.

West Indies legend Courtney Walsh has criticised Australia's pace policy ahead of the first Test starting on Thursday.

Many have been left scratching their heads at the selection of quick Nathan Coulter-Nile, despite not player a Shield match since last season.

Walsh, know for his intimidating, blistering pace, says that picking bowlers just because they bowl fast is not the best way to pick your bowling attack.

“I think you have to play your best bowlers, if they happen to be quick then fine,” Walsh said.

“But I wouldn’t be just selecting four bowlers just because they can bowl at 140kph - maybe one or two.

“But you still want someone who can hit the right areas.

“It’s about getting the right combination together.”
