Australian legend Shane Warne has suggested Australia could be in line to make two changes to their bowling attack for the opening Test at the Gabba.

Never afraid of making his feelings around Australia's cricket side clear, Warne has taken a shot at both Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon.

Speaking at a media day for the launch of Big Bash League supercoach, Warne said Starc should be outright replaced in the side for the first Test by Jhye Richardson, while he also hopes leg spinner Mitchell Swepson puts Nathan Lyon under pressure.

Warne, a leg spinner himself during a glittering career which saw him take over 700 wickets, has been a long-time fan of Swepson, with the Queenslander having 149 wickets at 33.66 in his first-class career, but coming into his own during the last Sheffield Shield season where he took 32 wickets in just five matches.

It was an embarrassing home summer last time Australia played red-ball cricket, with India taking a three-one victory over the hosts despite being bowled out for 36 in the first Test of the summer.

Both Starc and Lyon struggled, with Starc taking 11 wickets at 40.72 and Lyon 9 wickets at 55.11, and Warne said that, combined with Starc's poor T20 World Cup, should be enough to see him replaced by a red-hot Jhye Richardson who has taken 23 wickets in eight innings at Sheffield Shield level this summer, including match figures of 7 for 109 in Western Australia's last match with Tasmania.

“He (Starc) needs to find a bit of rhythm and some form," Warne said.

“He had a really poor World Cup. He’s just not bowling well enough.

“It’s too important at the Gabba. I’m all for Jhye Richardson (replacing Starc in the team).”

Warne didn't outright suggest Lyon should be replaced, but believes Swepson should have him under pressure.

“He (Lyon) had a poor summer last year, so did Mitchell Starc,” Warne said.

“I hope Mitch Swepson, as a leg-spinner, puts some pressure on Nathan Lyon."

Both Swepson and Richardson were included in Australia's 15-man squad which was announced for the first two Tests of the summer, to be played in Brisbane and Adelaide, before Cricket Australia will be open to changes from the third Test in Melbourne on Boxing Day.
