Victorian opening batsman Will Pucovski has received a life from the umpires after having an apparent plumb LBW turned down.
Opening the batting for Victoria at the Junction Oval in St Kilda alongside another Australian hopeful in Marcus Harris, Victoria found themselves chasing 466 against Western Australia early on Day 2.
In what was only the third over of the innings, Warriors' quick Jhye Richardson appeared to have Pucovski trapped on the pads, back on the crease and with the ball going on to shatter into the stumps.
Pucovski had fallen through the shot, playing all around a ball that moved late.
Despite being wrapped on the pads under the knee roll, the umpire would turn down Richardson and the Warriors.
The life came in just the third over, with the Victorians only on four. The wicket would have been a dream start for the Western Australian bowling attack.
Richardson himself is pushing for a return to the Australian side, with the towering quick seemingly fifth in line behind New South Wales trio Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and captain Pat Cummins, as well as Victorian gun Scott Boland, who was a hero of last summer's Ashes series.
Boland is missing the game between the Victorians and Western Australia, with a century from Cameron Bancroft backuped by big innings from D'Arcy Short (87), Sam Whiteman (82), Hilton Cartwright (70) and young gun Teague Wyllie (49) in the score of 466 for the visitors.
At tea, Vicotria were 0/19 in response, with Pucovski on 7 and Harris on 12.
