Ruturaj Gaikwad has entered the history books in stunning fashion with a record-breaking 43 runs off one over that consisted of seven maximums courteous of the bowling of left arm off-spinner Shiva Singh in Ahmedabad.

In the penultimate over of the Vijay Hazare trophy representing his side the Maharashtras, Gaikwad went berserk, fancying the efforts of Singh on his way to amassing 220 off 159 balls.

Tallying the fifth-highest score by any List A bat in that competitions format, Gaikwad's match-winning knock helped his side post 330/5 with ten fours and 16 sixes contributing to the total off his own stick.

The spinner endured a hard-fought day with the figures of Singh stretched out to 0/88 following his nine overs at the bowling crease, where Gaikwad handed him an unwanted record in return.

Research shows the total of 36 was led to be believed the previous standing record for most runs in an over, achieved twice by Ravi Shastri and Gary Sobers in respective first-class matches.
