Pakistan spinner Yasir Shah has lodged a strong contender for 'ball of the century with a mouth-watering dismissal of Sri Lankan batsman Kusal Mendis.

With Sri Lanka at 4-178 and looking to extend their lead in the third innings of the Galle Test match between the two nations, Shah's scintillating delivery sparked the end of Mendis' 76-run knock.

A delivery that may just rival the late great Shane Warne's famous ball of the century to dismiss Englishman Mike Gatting in the 1993 Ashes Seris, Shah's effort literally stumped the defending Sri Lankans as the right-armer drifted the ball past the line of leg-stump, only for the ball to turn back and clip the top of the off-side peg.

The ball was so mesmerising, that even the Sri Lankan Twitter account lauded the delivery in dismissing their No.4 batsman.

“Ball of the Century candidate? Yasir Shah stunned Kusal Mendis with a stunning delivery which reminded the viewers of Shane Warne’s ‘Ball of the Century’," the national side's account tweeted.

Shah ended the innings with the figures of 3/122 from 29 overs, backing up his first innings of 2/66.

Pakistan require 120 runs for victory, currently placed on 3-222 heading into the final day of the opening Test.
