Cricket West Indies president Ricky Skerritt has come down hard on his national side's failed T20 World Cup campaign, echoing the "utter frustration" that has now headlined their tournament.
The Caribbean side failed in their attempts to progress through to the Super 12 stage of the World Cup after falling to Ireland in a nine-wicket loss at Bellerive Oval on Friday.
The defeat was the West Indies' second from their three Group B fixtures, having also fallen to Scotland in their opening match of the tournament.
Their group stage results left them with a bottom-placed finish and an early exit from the World Cup, warranting a statement from president Skerritt.
Released shortly after their loss to Ireland, Skerritt spoke on his "deeply disappointed" view of the region's campaign.
“I am deeply disappointed with the performance results of our team in Australia and I appreciate the sense of utter frustration that is being experienced by many,” Skerritt said.
“The ongoing inability of our batsmen to prevail over opposing slow bowling continued to be an obvious weakness in Australia, and untimely shot selections seem to be deeply embedded in the T20 batting culture of our senior team.”
The shock World Cup exit comes just six years after the West Indies claimed the 2016 T20 World Cup, their second since 2012.
The West Indies will host the 2024 T20 World Cup, sharing the rights with the United States.
