Victorian opening batsman Will Pucovski will take another break from cricket, this time for personal reasons.

Pucovski is widely rated as one of the best young batsmen in the sport, having debuted for Australia against India in January of 2021 aged just 22.

His single Test - where he made a half-century - is yet to be added too, with the opening batsman struggling to spend consistent time at first-class level due to a long list of concussions that have continually ruled him out of the sport for long periods of time.

According to Code Sports, his latest break from the game is not a result of a concussion.

Victorian head of high performance Graham Manou said Pucovski would be given all the support he needs.

“Player welfare is always our top priority; we'll continue to work with Will to ensure he gets the support and space he needs and welcome him back when he‘s ready,” Manou said.

He came back at the start of this summer through second XI and then first XI cricket for Victoria. After big runs for the second XI, he made a half-century against New South Wales in the one-day cup, but then made scores of 5, 0, 9 and 37 across his next three games, which included his return to red-ball cricket in the Sheffield Shield against South Australia and Western Australia.

The 37 came in a game where Victoria declared at 4 for 616 on a flat deck at the Junction Oval, with another Test hopeful in Peter Handscomb racking up 281 runs.

Pucovski was believed to be on the selection radar for next year's four-Test tour of India, which will directly follow the completion of the Big Bash League season.
