Five players who missed Australia's win over South Africa in the Adelaide Test will be pushing hard for selection over the next four days as the next round of Sheffield Shield action gets underway today.
Callum Ferguson, Joe Mennie, Peter Nevill, Adam Voges and Joe Burns all have something to prove when they take to the field on Monday, as a recall to the Test side will be on their minds.
Six men who played during that third Test win in Adelaide - Matt Renshaw, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Nic Maddinson, Nathan Lyon and Jackson Bird - have all gone back to state level to play for this week's Shield rounds, although it looks as though only Maddinson may be sweating a touch over his position for the first Test in Brisbane against Pakistan.
Bird and Handscomb will captain Tasmania and Victoria respectively, as George Bailey and Matthew Wade are currently on ODI duty for Australia.
Ferguson will captain South Australia in their match against New South Wales this week, as regular skipper Travis Head joins Bailey and Wade on the international stage.
All three matches will begin on Monday, with each match using the pink ball in the day-night matches.
