Former Australian Test quick Doug Bollinger might have spent the better chunk of his Big Bash League career with the Sydney Sixers, but the now 41-year-old will turn out in a Sydney Thunder celebrity match ahead of the Sydney Smash on January 8.

The derby clash, to be held at the Sydney Showgrounds, is one of the biggest matches on the BBL calendar, and the Thunder will mark the occasion by playing a celebrity match ahead of the main event, which will kick off at 7:15pm (AEDT).

Bollinger, who played 12 Tests for Australia between 2009 and 2010, 39 ODIs between 2009 and 2011, and 9 T20Is between 2011 and 2014, spent a single season at the Thunder in 2011-12.

He would then play for the Hobart Hurricanes between 2012 and 2015, before moving to the Sydney Sixers where he finished his BBL career, eventually hanging up the boots at the end of 2017-18.

A veteran of 129 matches in the shortest format, Bollinger took 139 wickets at 25.47, to go with 411 first class wickets at 28.05 and 203 List A wickets at 27.12.

The now 41-year-old will line up as part of "Team Storm" in the game, to be joined by rugby league legend Paul Sironen, world champion Boxer George Kambosos, Channel 7s Erin Holland and New South Wales premier Dominic Perrottet.

Bollinger is the only former player in the game, although both teams will have two players from the Sydney Thunder's WBBL outfit, with Tahlia Wilson and Sammy-Jo Johnson to join Bollinger's side.

The opposition, to be labelled "Team Thor" will see Phoebe Litchfield and Hannah Darlington out of the WBBL outfit joined by current Melbourne Storm NRL star Ryan Papenhuyzen, rugby league legend Bradley Clyde, Olympic medalist boxer Harry Garside, Cricket New South Wales CEO Lee Germon and Fox Sports' Megan Barnard.

The game will be played on January 8.
