Legendary quick bowler Glenn McGrath and former Australian Test captain Kim Hughes will feature on ABC radio's coverage of the home summer of cricket this season.

The 2022-23 season has brought with it the need to replace the retired Ian Chappell this summer for the national radio broadcaster as Australia prepare for a two-Test series against West Indies and a three-Test series against South Africa, as well as a handful of limited overs fixtures.

The Daily Telegraph are reporting that McGrath, who has done some media work since retiring from the sport, although it has mainly centred around Pink Stumps Day and the McGrath foundation, will be a fulltime member in the commentary box for the ABC this summer.

The 52-year-old, who retired in 2007, played 124 Tests and 250 ODIs during his career and is widely regarded as one of, if not the greatest quick bowler in the history of the game.

Hughes, on the other hand, captained Australia in the early 1980s as part of a 70-Test career which saw him score 4415 runs at 37.41.

The 68-year-old played 70 Tests and 97 ODIs for Australia, to go with 216 first class games.

The publication also report that former West Indian skipper Carl Hooper will join the team for the West Indies series, while Ashwell Prince, who played 66 Tests for South Africa, will join the ABC for the matches against the Proteas.

The ABC's commentary team will also feature Jason Gillespie, Dirk Nannes, Stuart Clark and Kristen Beams, while Jim Maxwell will continue his leading role at the forefront of ball by ball coverage on radio, as he has done since the 1980s. Maxwell has commentated on a staggering 322 Test matches leading into this summer.
