Just four days after the T20 World Cup final, England will be back in action as they tackle Australia in the first ODI of a three-match series at the Adelaide Oval.

The toss has seen Australia win, and elect to field first on a pitch which captain Pat Cummins suggested would "stay the same throughout the game."

English captain Jos Buttler said at the toss that he would have batted first.

The biggest news out of the team selection is that Luke Wood has been selected to make his ODI debut for England.

The Sheffield-born 27-year-old has risen to prominence via T20 cricket, where he has taken 74 wickets in 82 games, however, he has played just four List A games in his career.

Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Sam Curran and Chris Woakes will all miss out after playing big roles throughout the T20 World Cup for the tournament champions. That means the batting line up, with Dawid Malan, is at full strength, while Chris Jordan, David Willey and Olly Stone all get opportunities in the bowling attack.

Australia, on the other hand, will play with Travis Head at the top of the order, replacing the retired Aaron Finch, while Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa are both playing, giving the Aussies two spinners.

Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis have both been named to complement the pace attack of Mitchell Starc and Cummins.

Play is scheduled to start at 2:20pm (AEDT).
