New Zealand star opener Martin Guptill will miss the second ODI against Australia with a hamstring injury.

The 32-year-old has been withdrawn from the match as a "precautionary measure," with Australian-born batsman Dean Brownlie coming into the side as his replacement.

"Martin felt tightness in his left hamstring while fielding yesterday and after being monitored over the last 24 hours it’s become apparent he won’t quite be ready for Napier," coach Mike Hesson said.

"He’ll remain with the team and we’ll continue to monitor him ahead of the third ODI in Hamilton."

Guptill has scored over five thousand runs in 138 ODI innings for New Zealand, at an average of 42.52.

The second match of the Chappell-Hadlee series takes place in Napier on Thursday.
