An unbeaten 83-run effort from Jamaica opener Brandon King has seen the Tallawahs take out the 2022 Caribbean Premier League crown over the Barbados Royals by eight wickets.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Royals pieced together a score of 7/161, headlined by Azam Khan's 51 runs from 40 deliveries.

Openers Kyle Mayers and Rahkeem Cornwall managed a 63-run partnership before the latter's dismissal for 36, a stand that included a monster six that hit the top of the scoreboard at Providence Stadium.

Tallawahs pair Fabian Allen and Nicholson Gordon recorded three wickets each in their attack, while Imad Wasim was the only other wicket-taker for Jamaica.

A struggling middle-order saw the Royals left with a reachable tally after 20 overs before the Tallawahs came to the crease.

Thinghs got off to a worrying start for the eventual premiers however, with opener Kennar Lewis dismissed for a golden duck in the opening over of their innings.

The workload was quickly picked up by the aforementioned King and first-drop batsman Shamarh Brooks, who recorded an 86-run partnership before Brooks was dismissed by Jason Holder early into the second half of their innings.

King continued his dominance from the tournament, blasting his way to 83 and smashing a six down the ground off the bowling of Oben McCoy to bring up the victory.

The knock saw King recognised as the Hero of the Tournament, having amassed 423 runs for the season, including one century and two half centuries.

The win sees the Tallawahs claim their third CPL title, having previously claimed the trophy in 2013 and 2016, and their first under coach and West Indies great Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
