Pakistani opener Mohammad Rizwan has broken into an elite list that includes T20 greats such as Chris Gayle and his teammate Babar Azam.

The wicketkeeper batter has been in a distinctive form, stroking 675 runs in his last 12 innings.

Rizwan has become just the third batter in the world to score 1500 runs or more T20 runs in a calendar year.

Rizwan has scored six fifties in his last eight T20 innings with scores of 55,68,88*, 88, 63 and 78*.

In his recent match against Bangladesh in the T20i Tri-series between New Zealand, Bangladesh and Pakistan, he smashed two sixes, and seven fours with 78 runs not out, leading his team to a respectable total.

This year, the 30-year-old has accumulated 1,519 runs in total professional games of the shortest format.

Rizwan has 2,337 runs from 58 international T20 innings, while Babar has 2,281 runs. Virat Kohli of India had 2,012 runs from his first 58 T20I innings.

In terms of individuals who have scored the most runs while serving as the designated wicketkeeper in T20Is, Rizwan has now overtaken England's, Jos Buttler.

The star player scored 2,196 runs as a wicketkeeper in T20Is out of his 2,337 runs. When he scored the second run of his inning, he surpassed Buttler on October 7. The English cricketer has 2,119 runs to his name while batting as the wicketkeeper.

Pakistan will play their next match on October 8, Saturday against New Zealand, after defeating Bangladesh by 21 runs.
