Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq will retire from international cricket after the side's upcoming Test series against the West Indies.

When ul-Haq walks off the pitch after the third and final Test of the series, he will be only weeks away from turning 43. However, age has done little to slow Misbah.

Across 72 Tests he averages 45.84, while his 4,951 runs in the longest form of the game currently place him as Pakistan's seventh all-time run scorer. He has also managed over 5000 runs in ODIs, despite not playing a match since 2015.

Misbah's last Test series was in Australia, his side were dominated over the three matches. The captain struggled, scoring only 76 runs at an average of 12.67, with a high score of 38.

Many thought it would be the end of the legendary batsman, however, he prolonged his career for another few months.

"My cricket journey was very good," Misbah said when discussing his retirement.

Despite a string of recent poor performances ul-Haq will still exit on a relative high. Earlier this month he was named as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year for his efforts in England in 2016.

Misbah will be hoping his side can give him the proper send off, and win what will be his final Test series. The captain should play an important role, averaging above 50 against the West Indies.
