Sri Lanka has bowled Pakistan all out for just 138 on the first day of the second Test in Colombo.

Tharindu Kaushal was the chief destroyer, taking 5-42, to have the tourists all out by tea.

The young off-spinner is playing just his second Test, while Dhammika Prasad chimed in with three wickets.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat, on a bouncy pitch, and made a positive start, reaching 2-70 at lunch. However, they then lost eight wickets in the middle session to collapse and be dismissed for just 138 runs in 42 overs. Opener Mohammed Hafeez top scored with 42.

Sri Lanka ensured they remained well on top, reaching 1-70 at stumps on day one, just 68 runs behind Sri Lanka. Silva (21) and Sangakkara (18) are the not out batsmen overnight, while Karunaratne was caught by Ahmed off the bowling of Khan for 28.

Pakistan coach Waqar Younis  said his side should have batted better on a good pitch.

"There were no demons in the pitch," he said.

"Our shot selection was poor and Sri Lanka bowled well too. But we should have got a lot more runs than we did.

"Our bowlers too kept the runs in check and we need to continue the same way tomorrow."
