There have been a staggering 65 centuries in IPL history, with some of them downright outrageous by the biggest hitters on the planet.

From Chris Gayle’s record-breaking 175 not out in 2013, to some of our own Australian stars going past three figures, it’s a feat which is extremely difficult to achieve in the shortest form of the sport.

Gayle himself holds the record for the most IPL centuries with six, meaning he has scored just over one out of every 11 centuries in T20 cricket’s richest competition.

Indian captain - although recently standing down from that job in the shortest form of the game - sits second with five centuries, while Australian duo, retired all-rounder Shane Watson and opening batsman David Warner round out the podium, the duo tied on four centuries.

But what are the best of the best when it comes to centuries? The game-winning performances which fans all around the world still go back and watch to this day?

Here is our top-five countdown.

3. Shane Watson, 2018

Probably the best performance by a batsman in an IPL final, Watson's 2018 century inspired the Chennai Super Kings to make a difficult run chase look suddenly easy as they mowed down the 178 scored by the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

They say runs on the board in a final are worth their weight in gold, however, Watson's 117 from 57 balls at a strike rate of 205.26, with 11 fours and eight sixes eased the pressure on his teammates around him as the Super Kings won by eight wickets, not even needing MS Dhoni, Dwayne Bravo or Ravindra Jadeja to bat.

The performance was even more impressive given the control Watson showed at the top of the order to see of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who bowled his four overs for just 17 runs.

Earlier, the Sunrisers had all of Shikhar Dhawan, Kane Williamson, Shakib Al Hasan and the previously mentioned Pathan go past 20, with Pathan whacking 45 from 25 balls.

Watson put together the ultimate final performance though, one which will go down in the books as one of the best in IPL history.
