Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland and Justin Langer speak to the media during a press conference on May 3, 2018 in Melbourne, Australia. Langer has been appointed the Team Head Coach of the Australian men's cricket tea, replacing Darren Lehmann who resigned in the wake of the ball tampering scandal.

Australia's new Test captain Pat Cummins has finally broken his steely silence over coach Justin Langer's future at the helm of the team.

Both Cummins and Cricket Australia chairman Nick Hockley have been non-committal over Langer's future.

Despite a successful T20 World Cup campaign, won by Australia for the first time, alongside a resounding Ashes series victory with two Tests to play, Langer is under the pump.

Multiple sources have suggested either Andrew McDonald - who is the current assistant coach - or Trevor Bayliss could take his spot, while there is also a train of thought which suggests that at a bare minimum the coaching of Australia's red and white ball teams will be split.

But speaking after Day 2 of the fifth Ashes Test in Hobart, Cummins said that while it's above his pay grade, Langer has done a good job in charge, while also saying the issue had gained no speculation from inside the camp.

“That’s above my pay grade. We’ll wait and see. It’d be nice to have clarity for everyone, but he’s been doing a fantastic job, we absolutely love JL,” Cummins said.

“He’s been really great through the World Cup and the Ashes.

"Honestly, it’s not been a talking point at all within the camp. The plan has always been to chat about it after the Ashes, so the powers that be I’m sure will chat at some stage, but he’s been fantastic for us and the boys love having him around.”

Langer's contract is up mid-year, with his next assignment likely to be Australia's tour of Pakistan in February, while McDonald will take on a white ball home and away series against New Zealand, which is due to be played at the same time.
